We are delighted that Alba Sport Nutrition will be sponsoring us and providing supplements for training and for the event. We will burn up approximately 5500-6000 calories during the swim which is the equivalent about 2lbs of body fat. The muscles and liver store about 2500 calories so there is a bit of a deficit to make up. Our preference are energy gels and bars which we will eat every hour. It is important to carb load so we will up the carbs in the 3 days before and Norman will eat a pound of jelly babies the night before. Hydration is important and you are still getting sea water in you which can cause dehydration and a loss of electrolytes. Electrolyte loss can lead to serious leg cramping and fatigue which would end the swim early. So we will have electrolyte replacement drinks with a warm option if needing a bit of heat. At the end of the swim we can get away with eating and drinking whatever we want. So feel free to buy Colin a pint and a fish supper for Norman in the Seaforth at the end! A big thanks to Mark James Stephen at Alba Sports Nutrition for his very generous donation of supplements that we will be needing for training and for our swim!
